my education.

My name is Talia, a qualified trainer based on the Northern Beaches. I have extensive hands on experience and success with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, working with a range of behavioural and obedience issues. I studied with Steve and Vicki Austin who are world renowned in dog training of all areas. My Dog Training and Behaviour Certificate achieved through Austins Education means that I have in depth and updated knowledge available to provide you and your best friend the skills you both need to communicate effectively to achieve the dog that doesn't make you second guess having them by your side — out & about and at home. I regularly attend and hold certificates or attendance for workshops in relation to topics on dog training such as anxiety, aggression, and scent detection. I use humane methods, backed by science, to give your dog the best chance in life that they deserve.

my story.

I always wanted to work with animals growing up and after a short stint in an office job I decided it wasn’t for me. I completed my Cert II Animal Studies whilst working at a doggy daycare. At that time, I brought home Otto, a lovely Mini Dachshund. I had no idea how to raise a puppy and I went along with my instincts which I was certain at the time were right at the time! His upbringing included loads of cuddles, walks around the block and days at work with me where I believed he was learning the most important lessons in socialisation.

He was desexed at 6 months and from there I started seeing reactivity towards dogs and people, and some severe separation anxiety. I was baffled! It sparked my interest in dog behaviour, and after researching dog training I decided on Austins Education. After studying for a year, I began to apply my new-found knowledge and concepts to assist Otto with his reactivity and separation anxiety. It was a journey, but we arrived at a place where I felt I could enjoy him again, and he could enjoy adventures and being comfortable at home alone again. He taught me a lot and enabled me to go through the sometimes painful but awfully rewarding journey of helping a dog through behavioural issues, so I understand the challenges that can arise and the emotions that can be felt along the way! I wanted to share this feeling with other dog owners as I knew how difficult living with a dog with issues to these extent could be, and so Curious Canine Training was born.

A little while after starting Curious Canine Training I welcome Zelda, a Finnish Lapphund (a breed originally bred for hunting and herding reindeer) home. I was then able to go through the puppy raising process again, this time with a little more knowledge and a few more tools under my belt. She has been an absolute delight and many enjoyed following along the journey of raising her as a pup!
