my education.
My name is Talia, a qualified trainer based on the Northern Beaches. I have extensive hands on experience and success with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, working with a range of behavioural and obedience issues. I studied with Steve and Vicki Austin who are world renowned in dog training of all areas. My Dog Training and Behaviour Certificate achieved through Austins Education means that I have in depth and updated knowledge available to provide you and your best friend the skills you both need to communicate effectively to achieve the dog that doesn't make you second guess having them by your side — out & about and at home. I regularly attend and hold certificates or attendance for workshops in relation to topics on dog training such as anxiety, aggression, and scent detection. I use humane methods, backed by science, to give your dog the best chance in life that they deserve.
my story.
I've always loved animals and knew from a young age that I wanted to work with them. After finishing school, I began studying Psychology and Business at university, but it didn't take long for me to realise that an office career wasn't the path I wanted to pursue. Instead, I left university to follow my passion for animals and completed my Certificate II in Animal Studies while working in a dog daycare.
Around this time, I welcomed a Mini Dachshund into my life. Like many first-time dog owners, I thought I was doing everything right. He came everywhere with me, received plenty of love and attention, and I believed I was giving him the best possible start.
As he matured, however, we began facing challenges with reactivity and severe separation anxiety. I found myself overwhelmed, frustrated, and searching for answers. The experience completely changed the way I viewed dog behaviour and sparked a passion for understanding why dogs do what they do.
Determined to help him, I enrolled with Austins Education and spent the next year studying dog training and behaviour. As I applied what I was learning, I watched him gradually become more confident, capable, and comfortable navigating the world. It wasn't always easy, but the journey taught me invaluable lessons about behaviour change, patience, and the emotional impact that living with a struggling dog can have on owners.
That experience ultimately inspired the creation of Curious Canine Training.
Not long after launching the business, I welcomed Zelda, my Finnish Lapphund, into the family. Raising her gave me the opportunity to approach puppyhood again with far more knowledge and experience under my belt. Today, Zelda is five years old and remains my constant training partner, demo dog, adventure buddy, and daily reminder of why I love what I do.
Since founding Curious Canine Training, I've had the privilege of helping thousands of dogs and their owners overcome behavioural challenges, build stronger relationships, and enjoy life together with greater confidence and understanding. From puppy raising and adolescent dogs through to reactivity, anxiety, aggression, and complex behavioural concerns, my goal has always remained the same: to help owners better understand their dogs and create a life together that feels enjoyable, rewarding, and achievable.
I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel when you're struggling with your dog's behaviour. My aim is to provide practical guidance, honest support, and training that works in the real world, so you can spend less time feeling frustrated and more time enjoying life with your dog.
